The Cleveland Browns have some major decisions to make, including how many people will fill their quarterback room. The team could make a big change in the coming days, and one of their young QBs could be packing his bags. Speaking on 92.3 The Fan, Zac Jackson acknowledged that the Browns could be saying goodbye to Dillon Gabriel.
The Browns will have to choose Gabriel’s fate by the end of October, and most signs point to them cutting ties with him.
“They’ve stashed [Dillon Gabriel] in the last two weeks. I would imagine they could probably stash him again, and then, next Tuesday, you have to make the move. It just totally depends on health and availability. I suppose he could get moved. Yes, the Browns would trade Dillon Gabriel. No, his future is probably not here. However, what someone would give for him is not what they’re willing to give up,” Jackson said.

Gabriel returned to practice last week, which gave the team a 21-day window to activate him from injured reserve. But even though he’s not injured, it doesn’t mean Cleveland will give him any time on the field. In fact, they might keep him on ice to protect his health and make him a more attractive candidate to other teams.
Even though he experienced plenty of problems during his rookie campaign last year, Gabriel was actually looking impressive during his preseason run. He completed 12 of 15 passes for a solid 186 yards and three touchdowns during the team’s win over the New England Patriots. That was enough for the Browns to hold onto Gabriel, although it’s clear that their commitment was tenuous.
It seemed like the Browns were willing to have a crowded quarterback room, but they are running out of time to make a move. If they are going to let go of Gabriel, they have to do it soon. They could pitch him to a number of teams, and several might see the appeal of him.
After all, he did get plenty of starting experience last year. During the 2025 season, he appeared in 10 games and made six starts, completing 59.5 percent of his passes for 937 yards and seven touchdowns.
With the right squad and the right coaching staff, Gabriel could still flourish into a reliable backup QB. But it feels as if his time in Cleveland is probably coming to an end. The clock is ticking, and the Browns will have to make a decision soon.
All signs point to them letting Gabriel go.
