Throughout the summer, certain people said that Deshaun Watson should be nothing but an afterthought for the Cleveland Browns. They felt the team should move on from the aging quarterback, along with his contract and years of controversy.
Now, many of them are singing a different tune. The Browns have surprised legions of fans with their strong start. Even though they have come back to earth a bit after their disappointing loss to the New York Jets, the Browns are still looking better than expected. According to Mary Kay Cabot, Watson is a huge reason why Cleveland has overperformed.
In fact, she called him the “major reason” for their 3-2 record.
“He’s the reason, or the major reason in my mind, that they’re 3-2 right now,” Cabot told 92.3 The Fan.

A lot of people didn’t expect the Browns to be in this position, and plenty of diehard followers really didn’t think Watson would get them there. It’ll still be difficult to make the playoffs, but some feel it’s possible.
Cabot believes the Browns can bounce back from their Jets defeat and earn more wins with Watson. They need to provide him with more support, including players who are able to carry the ball reliably and boost the Browns’ run game.
Watson definitely deserves credit, and he’s been receiving it. Even people who were completely over Watson feel he is doing well, and they are praising him. However, that may not be the case in a few weeks if the losses start to pile up.
The Jets took the Browns down, and they are next facing off against the difficult Baltimore Ravens. The goodwill for Watson could evaporate quickly if the Browns start losing like they did last season.
He is currently seen as an asset to the team, but people’s opinions could flip again, and he could be viewed as a weakness if the Browns’ 3-2 record becomes 3-3, 3-4, or worse.
