The Cleveland Browns are looking to get back on track this Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens after seeing their three-game winning streak fall in a rain-soaked loss at the New York Jets in Week 5. It certainly won’t be easy to take down their AFC North rivals, especially with Lamar Jackson likely returning, but this will be a great test to see if the Browns truly have what it takes to contend this year or if the hot start was a bit of a fluke.
The main reason for the team’s surprising start has been the resurgence of quarterback Deshaun Watson, who has defied the odds and not only held onto the starting QB job through five games, but mostly thrived and has a positive impact on the entire team. Unfortunately, him cementing his status as the starting quarterback raises major questions that need to be answered in the near future about Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, who is on his way back from IR.
During a recent episode of Cleveland’s Talking Heads, insider Charles Robinson touched on the difficult decision the Browns have coming down the pipeline. He said that this offseason, the Browns have a major quarterback decision to make with many different variables to it.
“They’re going to make some decision this coming offseason at the quarterback spot that is going to be definitive. Either they’re going to draft a guy who’s going to be their cornerstone moving forward, they’re going to acquire a guy who’s going to be their cornerstone moving forward, or, and I still think this is distant, but I would no longer say there’s just no way it will ever work out again with Deshaun,” Robinson said.

The Browns could have a QB decision to make before then with Gabriel returning. Rookie Taylen Green likely isn’t going anywhere, so all signs point to either Gabriel or Sanders being sent away at the trade deadline to avoid having four quarterbacks on the roster.
We saw this team go into last season with a four-man quarterback competition, and two of those QBs were sent away by this time last year. It’s not good for the team or the players to have three young QBs not seeing the field, and with Sanders hiring an agent recently, it’s fair to wonder if one of them is on the way out.
Not too long ago, the idea of recommitting to Watson this offseason would have been unfathomable. With two first-round picks in the 2027 draft, it’s hard to believe GM Andrew Berry won’t use one of them on a quarterback, but perhaps a Watson reunion on a short-term deal could be the solution to bridge the gap to that rookie.
