Point spreads tend to react quickly to what happened last week. One lopsided result can change how oddsmakers view a team, especially when it comes against a division rival. A week ago, the Browns were winning close games and being talked about as a contender. After Sunday’s loss in Pittsburgh, the betting market is already less convinced.
Nick Camino of WKYC shared that the Browns are already underdogs for next week’s game.
“The #Browns are a 2.5-point underdog in New Orleans next Sunday against a Saints team coming off a Bye…,” Camino wrote.

Camino was quoting Jeff Sherman’s Week 9 lines from Circa Sports, which had the Saints at minus-2.5 against Cleveland.
A 2.5-point line is close to what oddsmakers usually give the home team for field advantage alone, so the market sees these as fairly even teams. That is a modest drop for a Browns team that was favored by 1.5 points in Tennessee just 2 weeks ago.
The bye is the bigger factor. The Saints have had 2 weeks to rest and prepare after their trip to Paris to face the Steelers in Week 7. The Browns are coming off a physical loss in which Deshaun Watson was sacked 8 times and evaluated for a concussion.
Road games have also been a challenge. The Browns are 2-3 away from home this season, with wins in Tampa Bay and Tennessee and losses in Jacksonville, New Jersey and Pittsburgh. This trip ends a 3-game road swing before they return home to face the Houston Texans on November 15.
There is still an opportunity in the schedule. The Steelers are on a bye in Week 9, so a Browns win would cut Pittsburgh’s lead in the AFC North to half a game. Elsewhere in the division, the Cincinnati Bengals face the Atlanta Falcons in Madrid, and the Baltimore Ravens are 9.5-point underdogs at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The matchup offers some reasons for optimism. Saints quarterback Tyler Shough has faced pressure on more dropbacks than almost any quarterback in the league, and the Browns rank among the league leaders in sacks. If Mike Rutenberg’s pass rush gets home, Cleveland’s defense can take over the game the way it did in its earlier wins.
The offense has to clean up the mistakes that sank it in Pittsburgh, from 0-for-3 in the red zone to 2 lost fumbles and 9 penalties. Todd Monken made it clear after the game that he will not accept youth as an excuse.
The trade deadline arrives 2 days later, on November 10. How the Browns play in New Orleans could shape whether Andrew Berry adds help or stays the course. Underdog or not, this is a game the Browns need to get back in the AFC North race.
