It’s not shocking to see the Cleveland Browns considering all their options at quarterback this offseason.
The front office appears committed to Baker Mayfield, but things change quickly in the NFL.
Also, general manager Andrew Berry mentioned that they plan to improve the team in any possible way.
That being said, the Browns could be open to bringing in a veteran quarterback.
Possibly, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz could be a fit for the Browns.
Wentz Leaving Indy?
It sounds like after one season Wentz could be out as the Colts quarterback.
The 29-year-old quarterback bounced back well in Indy after a disastrous season in 2020.
He finished with 3,563 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 17 games.
Wentz looked sharp throughout most of the season, but crumbled down the stretch.
He completed only 59% of his passes with two touchdowns and one interception in the final two games of the regular season.
Both games were losses and cost the Colts a chance at the postseason.
That being said, it sounds like the Colts are ready to move on from Wentz.

Wentz has a hefty contract that doesn’t expire until after the 2024 campaign.
Although, the Colts can save money by cutting or trading Wentz before the deal is fully guaranteed.
It’s uncertain what the Colts plan to do at quarterback, assuming they move on from Wentz.
It doesn’t sound like the front office believes in Wentz, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see them move on soon.
Browns Bring In Wentz?
On paper, Wentz is a significant upgrade over Mayfield at the quarterback position.
Wentz has a Super Bowl ring and was in the MVP discussion before tearing his ACL in 2017.
He has put together multiple successful seasons in the NFL.
However, it appears the Colts don’t believe he can be a consistent option to lead their team to a Super Bowl.
The talent is certainly there as seen by his performance during the 2021 season.

It’ll come down to whether the Browns front office believes Wentz is an upgrade over Mayfield.
It also depends on what kind of package the Colts are seeking in a possible trade.
The Browns likely want to try and acquire Wentz rather than face a possible bidding war in free agency.
Teams such as Washington, Tampa Bay, and others could pay significant money to bring in a player like Wentz.
That being said, it’ll likely be smarter to attempt and make a trade with Indy.
A Deal For Wentz
As already mentioned, Wentz is already signed to a hefty contract, which hurts his value.
The fact that Indy is saying they want Wentz off the team does hurt their leverage.
Despite that, Wentz does have value in the trade market because he played well last season.
Plenty of teams are in the market for quarterbacks, so Wentz should have suitors.
In any deal with Cleveland, the Browns would likely be giving up Mayfield in exchange for Wentz.
There would be no need for Mayfield on the roster, assuming Wentz gets acquired by Cleveland.
Possibly, Mayfield and a few middle round draft picks would be enough to get a deal done.
This is not a deal that the Browns must do this offseason, but certainly something for the front office to explore.
