It has been a hot start to the season for the Cleveland Browns. They’ve come out strong and earned a 3-1 record through the first four weeks of the season. They’ve been getting solid contributions all around, but some players are standing out more than others.
Fans were unsure what to expect from their rookie receivers heading into the regular season. Sometimes, it takes time for rookies to start making a real impact, but that’s not the case in Cleveland. Recently, head coach Todd Monken gave praise to second-round pick Denzel Boston.
“But he’s only going to continue to get better because he’s tough physically and mentally, he’s diligent, he’s got an excellent catch radius and plays strong to the ball,” head coach Todd Monken said of Boston. “That’s all you need to know. He’s done an excellent job early on, and he’s only going to continue to get better because that’s his mindset.”
It has only been four games, but Boston has exceeded expectations early on. Through four games, Boston has recorded 13 receptions for 284 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The big-bodied wideout has been a favorite target of Deshaun Watson so far.
This is only the beginning for Boston, who could end up being a Pro Bowler for this offense. The rookie wideout has exceeded 50 receiving yards in every game besides one this season. He’s the go-to target for Watson, seeing 22 targets through the first four weeks of the season.
Boston was expected to be a red-zone favorite for the Browns since he was drafted. The rookie wideout totaled 20 touchdowns over his final two years at Washington. At 6-4, and 125 pounds, Boston can be a legitimate threat in the league for a long time.
Monken is right, this is only the beginning for the rookie wideout. He’s still adjusting and learning the game at the professional level. Imagine what kind of impact Boston can make once he has more experience under his belt. The Browns might end up with one of the biggest steals in the draft if Boston continues to develop at an elite level.
