Cleveland Browns fans pounded the table during the offseason, wanting the organization to make the right moves to bring this team in the right direction. After winning just eight games over the past two years, their frustration was certainly warranted.
The Browns, of course, have had a tumultuous time when it comes to identifying talent and being competitive, but they didn’t sit on their heels during the offseason. Grabbing several pieces of need, including bulking up their offensive line, were steps in the right direction in winning back fans.
OT Spencer Fano ended up being their first selection in the first round, a player that many believed had the potential to be the best lineman in the class. Fano is slated to play left tackle for the Browns, an important position for any team, especially one that’s going through some quarterback struggles. While this is a large task, especially for a rookie, new head coach Todd Monken believes he’ll be ready, which is what he said via 92.3’s The Fan.
“I do think he competes. Little bit of bite back, competitive fire. He’s going to definitely continue to ascend,” Monken said.

Monken has seen a competitive side to Fano during training camp, one that will hopefully keep growing as the season gets closer. Even though Fano was a first-rounder, he’ll have to keep fighting to earn his starting spot on the roster to help protect the Browns’ QBs.
Whether it’s Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson, or a combination of the two, Fano and his new teammates will need to set these two up for success if the Browns want any chance of being competitive this year. While their defense just lost Myles Garrett, they should still be a staunch unit, so the offense will once again be placed under a microscope.
If they can’t figure it out this year with this revamped offensive line and new and improved wide receiver options, the organization could make some major changes a year from now, which would likely start at quarterback. For now, it’s one step at a time for the Browns, so they’ll need to see how this season pans out before doing anything drastic.
