Postgame speeches rarely make it outside a locker room, but every so often a coach delivers one worth sharing publicly, especially after a week filled with outside noise and a response that silenced most of it. Cleveland’s head coach did exactly that Sunday night, delivering a message that he believes in each and every one of the players in his locker room.
Monken made clear that Sunday’s result reflected something bigger than any single player or play.
“That was a team win. There’s not a group I would rather have out there at the end than our group. I believed it. I’m so proud of trusting the process. We do have a good football team. We didn’t put our best foot forward last week and there’s a lot of things we get to clean up this week. But I’m telling ya, we’ve got a great group of dudes. Teams are gonna have a hard time dealing with us. Everybody gets a game ball,” Monken said.

The message lines up with everything that unfolded over the previous seven days. A blowout loss to Jacksonville invited plenty of outside criticism, including national commentary comparing Cleveland to years of “Browns being Browns” narratives.
Monken did not pretend Week 1 never happened, acknowledging that the team had things to clean up and had not played its best football yet this season.
But for a team that heard plenty of doubt from outside voices over the past week, hearing this kind of belief from the coach who has been in the building every day carries a different message than any radio take or national prediction. Whether that belief translates into sustained success starts with how Cleveland follows it up in a home opener against Carolina that now arrives with real momentum behind it.
