The Cleveland Browns disappointed their fans a few weeks back when they named Deshaun Watson the starting quarterback despite the loud boos he received during his poor preseason appearance in front of the home crowd. The disparaging comments he made afterwards weren’t enough to dissuade head coach Todd Monken from naming him the starter either, and the whole situation has created a dark cloud that will hover over the organization for quite some time.
The disappointing quarterback situation has overshadowed a lot of other positive developments taking place throughout camp as many intriguing young talents are emerging on both sides of the ball. If Watson, or eventually Shedeur Sanders, can take a step forward and provide some decent play at QB, there is reason to believe this could be a good football team despite what many doubters believe.
During a recent episode of BIGPLAY Cleveland, local media legend Bruce Drennan expressed his doubts about Oregon quarterback Dante Moore. Despite Moore’s big performance in the Ducks’ season-opening win over Boise State where he threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns, Drennan doesn’t believe he’d be the answer for the Browns.
“Watch, the Browns will take him. He’ll be another bust in our history,” said Drennan.

It’s important to note that context is important here. The quote reads worse than it actually is if you watch the video. It was a throwaway comment that Drennan made that is more of a knock on the Browns than it is on Moore. He isn’t a huge believer in Moore due to his performance in the playoff last year, but this comment sounds more like that of a typical beaten down Browns fan who is resigned to the fact that they’ll never find the long-term answer at quarterback than it does of a Moore hater.
It would take a significant turn of events for the Browns to be out of the quarterback market going into the 2027 draft. Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders have an uphill battle ahead of them to convince GM Andrew Berry to avoid using those two first-round picks to take another shot on a franchise guy, and Moore is just one of a handful of elite talents projected to be available for him.
Moore was projected to be a top-three pick in this year’s draft, but he opted to return to Oregon for another year. He will be in that same mix in the 2027 draft if he repeats what he did last season, and we’ll see if Drennan comes around by then should the Browns happen to be in the mix for his services.
