The Cleveland Browns have some decisions to make, and they could greatly influence the future of the team. Despite their currently strong record, the team seemingly doesn’t have a definitive plan when it comes to their quarterback situation. Deshaun Watson is leading the team’s offense right now, but that may not be the case next season and beyond.
The Browns have some backup QBs waiting in the wings: Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and Taylen Green. But speaking to 92.3 The Fan, Jeff Phelps said the team should consider cutting ties with each of those players and letting them go.
He doesn’t envision any of them as a “franchise quarterback” and thinks they could all be on the chopping block.
“I don’t think any of the three of them are the franchise quarterback of this football team,” Phelps said.

At this point, it wouldn’t be too shocking to see the Browns let go of any of those players. Although they have all contributed in their own ways, none of them have been a huge presence on the field. Even Sanders, who has received a ton of media attention and minutes last season, isn’t spoken about too much lately. There is a good chance that he could be exiting Cleveland in the near future.
If the Browns do let go of these players, they would need at least a couple to replace them. The quarterback room cannot be completely empty in Cleveland, after all. Watson has played better than some people expected, but he is still not seen as a long-term solution for this team. He’s in the last year of his contract, and he’s an older QB, while the Browns would like someone younger running their offense.
The Browns probably wouldn’t get a lot from each of these three quarterbacks on the trade market, but if they really have no plans to use them or build a roster around them, they could take whatever they could get. There is no need to hold onto them if they aren’t going to serve a true role on the team. Throughout the offseason, fans had worries and concerns about Cleveland’s quarterback situation.
It sounds like they aren’t going away any time soon.
