We’re only a few days away from the Cleveland Browns season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Usually, fans are excited and hopeful about the upcoming season, but that might not be true in Cleveland right now. Depending on the outcome on Sunday, things could quickly turn negative for the young Browns team.
Analyst Ken Carman believes this fanbase is already in a negative headspace before the season even begins.
“That’s where I’m gonna leave it, because if they go out there and they get smashed on Sunday, it’s gonna turn into, ‘At least we got our rah-rah speeches, didn’t we?’ This is as negative as I’ve seen Browns fans to start a season in 15 years. We’ve been on the air when we’ve felt that they’ve started a worse quarterback. It’s that they openly dislike that quarterback that they’re starting,” Carman said.

It’s probably going to get worse before it starts to get better for Browns fans. The team is sticking with veteran Deshaun Watson to begin the season, which doesn’t make the majority of the fanbase happy. The fans have seen and heard enough of Watson that they don’t even want him around anymore.
Watson is in the final year of his deal, which has been one of the worst contracts in NFL history. Watson hasn’t even taken a snap in a regular season game since 2024. Despite all the hate and injuries, the Browns are going to let Watson start under center in the opener.
As Carman mentioned, if the game goes sideways for the Browns, then it could get ugly in Cleveland. Browns fans already dislike Watson, so a bad performance on the field is only going to make it worse. If the Browns lose the first few games, fans will be calling for Watson to be benched.
It’s safe to say that almost no Browns fans are happy to see Watson out there for the season opener. The vibes are down because someone they dislike very much is starting for their favorite team.
It’s highly unlikely that Watson even makes it to the midway point in the season as the starter, assuming he struggles. At that point, the Browns will have a losing record, and fans will be frustrated with the organization for starting Watson in the first place.
The Browns have a good up-and-coming team, but the Watson situation is bringing down the vibes in Cleveland.
