Browns Have Interesting Trend Working For Them Against Jaguars

Football is so close you can almost taste it. Preseason may have been a nice little appetizer, but the main course is just over a week away as the Cleveland Browns are all set to open the 2026 season at the Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday with a whole lot of new faces looking to usher in a new culture throughout the organization.

Many fans have lost some excitement due to Deshaun Watson being named the starting quarterback, but as hard as it is to believe, he probably gives this team its best chance to win games right now. There is a lot more talent around him than there was when he last took the field for the Browns, but the quest to start 1-0 is going to be a tricky one against a tough Jags team.

Mike Goldfarb of Yahoo Sports shared a couple of interesting stats that point to a potential upset in Jacksonville. Both the Browns and Watson individually have had tremendous success against the Jaguars over the years, though this will be one of the best Jags teams they have seen over the past decade.

Cleveland last lost to the Jags in 2017 by a score of 19-7 during that infamous 0-16 season. The Browns are 3-0 against them since with the last win coming in 2024 with Watson under center.

These two teams don’t cross paths much, so it will be fun to see them square off next Sunday in what optimistic Browns fans will hope can serve as a potential playoff preview. The Jags are fresh off a 13-win season and are going to be hungry to take that next step after racking up all those wins only to lose in the Wild Card round to the Buffalo Bills while the Browns are just hoping to turn this ship around after winning just eight games over the past two years.

Watson used to suit up in Jacksonville every year during his days with the Houston Texans, so perhaps having that familiarity will help him avoid the nerves of taking the field for the first time in nearly two years. He has a ton of doubters at the moment, but we’ll see if he can start winning games and quieting some of that noise.
