Joe Jackson had an excellent preseason for the Cleveland Browns.
Although he was part of the final cuts, he was quickly signed back to the active roster.
This was by design as Andrew Berry needed to place some teammates onto the short term injured reserve.
And Jackson’s regular season got off to a great start with a sack of Patrick Mahomes.

But he’s only had one tackle since then over four games.
And on Thursday, the Browns unexpectedly waived Jackson.
Berry signed veteran Ifeadi Odenigbo after he was cut by the Giants earlier this season.
He has not played a snap yet for Cleveland, but Odenigbo should be familiar enough with the defense by now.
What It Means For The Browns
Cleveland did not announce a corresponding move, leaving them with a hole on the roster.
Joe Woods can make due with the foursome of Myles Garrett, Takk McKinley, Jadeveon Clowney, and Odenigbo.
But Clowney (elbow) and McKinley (Ankle/Knee) have not practiced the past two days.
Neither McKinley nor Clowney is expected to miss Sunday’s game, but it’s surprising to cut depth behind them.
First sack for #Browns comes without Myles Garrett on field. Joe Jackson swallows Patrick Mahomes on 2nd down. Pivotal play that eventually results in Chiefs field goal.
Huge stand for Joe Woods' defense. Browns lead 22-20 nearing 4th quarter.

Porter Gustin and-or Curtis Weaver can be signed or elevated from the practice squad.
Or it’s possible the team plans to add someone from another team’s practice squad.
Elijah Lee was released earlier this week, presumably to make room for linebacker Anthony Walker.
Which means the pending addition can come at any position.
What It Means To Joe Jackson
Jackson could be re-signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
This is especially possible if Gustin or Weaver are elevated.
Cleveland went through last season with Gustin and Jackson as their 3rd and 4th edge rushers.
Each had moments, and neither stood out in a negative way all year.

If the veterans are dealing with injuries, Jackson would be quality depth on the practice squad.
But it is no sure thing he does not get claimed by another team.
It was a slight upset for Jackson to beat out Gustin for a roster spot.
Weaver struggled during the preseason, and would have to make great strides to displace anyone else.
