Cleveland Browns wide receiver Ryan Switzer’s 9 month old son Christian is back in the hospital.
On March 20, Switzer wrote on Twitter:
“We are back at the hospital after Christian had more significant bleeding this morning. We’re frustrated but more so just exhausted seeing our son suffer. We’re asking for prayers for the doctors as they work to find a diagnosis & strength for Christian as he battles.”

Christian’s health issues began two weeks ago when Ryan posted this.
I’m asking everyone that this tweet comes across to please just take a second and say a prayer for our son Christian. He’s 9 months and currently in the hospital after he woke up in his blood. He’s Covid positive.

Christian’s First Hospitalization
Switzer provided updates on social media as he continued to ask for support and prayers for his family.
During that hospitalization, only one parent was allowed to be with Christian due to COVID-19 protocols so Ryan was separated from his wife and child.
Christian stayed stable throughout the night, & another CT confirmed the source & need for surgery this morning. Mom & him are exhausted but your prayers have kept ALL of us, esp. Christian going. May God have his hands on the surgeons and be with Christian as he’s sleeping. pic.twitter.com/ivYlL1BmZC

Christian had blood transfusions and surgery.
It was a stressful and horrible situation, but finally the Switzers shared great news.
Christian was discharged from the hospital on March 10; he was at home, playing and behaving normally with no bleeding.
Less than a week later, Ryan made this video to update and thank everyone.

The news that Christian is back in the hospital just four days after this video was made is just devastating.
It has never been clear if Christian’s health issues are related to COVID-19 and are attributed to something else.
Regardless, this is a parent’s worst nightmare for his infant son.
Hopefully, the Switzer family gets the answers and healing they need to bring Christian home for good, with no follow-up hospitalizations.
Ryan Switzer is a well-liked and known player as he has played for four teams in his young career, the Browns, Steelers, Cowboys, and Raiders (Oakland).
He has the love and support of many former teammates, coaches, and fans that will hopefully provide strength and solace to Ryan and his wife during this awful time.
We hope the next update from Ryan is one sharing good news that Christian has improved and is headed home.
Get well soon Christian Switzer!
