Denzel Boston continued his spectacular rookie year for the Cleveland Browns against the New York Jets in Week 5. The wide receiver caught another long pass for the Browns’ only touchdown in the 17-12 loss.
For the season, Boston has 16 receptions on 29 targets for 330 yards, three TDs and 12 first downs. Those numbers have made him a legitimate candidate to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
A second-round pick from the 2026 NFL Draft and the seventh wide receiver off the board, Boston leads his class in four major categories — total yards, yards per catch, touchdowns, and first downs — without dropping a pass.
“Denzel Boston ranks among rookie WRs: 1st — Receiving yards; 1st — Receiving yards per reception; 1st — Receiving TDs; 1st — First downs receiving. 0 drops through 5 first games, per Sumer Sports,” Underdog NFL posted.

Overall, Boston ranks first in the NFL at 20.6 yards per catch, and his receiving yards are 15th. His TDs are tied for 12th, and his first downs are tied for 29th.
Boston was in line for his first game-winning touchdown catch after hauling in a 29-yard pass from quarterback Deshaun Watson in the fourth quarter on Sunday. It gave the Browns a 12-10 lead with 6:15 remaining, but after a bad snap on a Cleveland punt, the Jets were able to take a 17-12 lead. Despite getting two more possessions, the Browns were unable to rally for their fourth straight game-winning drive.
Cleveland has nine total touchdowns this season, which means Boston has one-third of them, all of which have come on long passes. His first was a 46-yard TD in the fourth quarter of the 34-10 season-opening loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He added a 55-yard score in the 23-19 Week 2 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Boston had a 28-yard catch in the 23-18 win against the Carolina Panthers in Week 3, and his 60-yard grab set up a TD in a 27-24 Week 4 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Against the Jets, he had two other catches for 17 yards.
Now, with fellow rookie KC Concepcion in concussion protocol after taking a scary hit in the first quarter on Sunday, Boston could have an even bigger role in the upcoming Week 6 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
