The Cleveland Browns were reportedly not willing to meet the contract demands of linebacker Joe Schobert.

Apparently, the Jacksonville Jaguars were.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Joe Schobert is signing a 5-year $53.75 million dollar deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Former #Browns LB Joe Schobert is headed to the #Jaguars on a 5-year, $53.75M deal, source said. He gets an average of $10.75M per year. $12M to sign and $22.5M guaranteed. A new face on that Jax defense.

The deal pays him $10.75 million a year with a $12 million signing bonus.

It also includes $22.5 million guaranteed overall.

Schobert is coming off a very good 2019 season with career high’s in INT’s and tackles for loss.

Recently, Schobert had expressed his desire to stay in Cleveland.

For the 2019 season, Schobert had 133 combined tackles, which ranked 10th overall.

Schobert has played 4 years in the NFL.

He was selected by the Browns in the 4th round of the 2016 draft out of Wisconsin.

The Browns expressed interest in having Schobert back, but not at the price he was seeking.

Browns GM Andrew Berry spoke at the Combine about it:

“Joe is a good player and an even better person,’’ Berry said during his combine podium interview. “…it’s one of those situations where we like Joe. It obviously has to work for both sides. It has to work for us from a cost perspective with our long-term roster strategy, and obviously it has to be a fit for Joe and his family as well.”

About Jimmy Swartz

Owner and Founder of BrownsNation.com. As a freelance sports journalist being born and raised in Ohio, I understand the Cleveland Browns fan base. Whether it was Red Right 88, The Drive, The Fumble, The Move, and whatever we're calling the post-1999 quarterback dilemma, Browns fans just want a winner. When I'm not plugging away in front of the computer, I'm probably watching sports or thinking about sports.
