Almost right from the start of the Cleveland Browns’ game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, it looked like it was going to be a special day for wide receiver KC Concepcion. He turned it into a historic one in Cleveland’s 27-24 victory.
On the Browns’ second offensive play, Concepcion caught a short pass from Deshaun Watson. Two plays later, he gained a first down on a run, but it was moved back by a holding penalty.
Then, on Cleveland’s second drive, Concepcion caught a 23-yard pass, and his breakout game was underway. His first half was spectacular, and the performance put him alongside one of the best rookie receivers in recent NFL history.
Concepcion joined elite company after a career-high performance, becoming the only rookie in almost three decades to have eight receptions and at least 125 receiving yards in the first half of a game, matching the feat of Odell Beckham of the New York Giants.
“Browns wide receiver KC Concepcion joined Odell Beckham Jr. as one of two rookies since 2000 with eight-plus receptions and 125-plus receiving yards in the first half of a game. Concepcion finished the game with a career-high eight receptions for 129 yards,” Oyefusi wrote.
Beckham’s game turned out to be a lasting memory. On Nov. 23, 2014, he had eight catches for 125 yards in the first half against the Dallas Cowboys, including the one-handed touchdown grab that made him famous.
Concepcion did not have a signature play like that, but he had more yards than Beckham did. The Browns also wound up winning this game, whereas the Giants lost Beckham’s outing to the Cowboys.
A first-round pick from the 2026 NFL Draft, Concepcion could have had an even bigger day had he not dropped a long pass from Watson early in the second half. With the Titans paying much more attention to the wideout, tight end Harold Fannin Jr. wound up being the hero with a 36-yard catch-and-run late in the fourth quarter that set up Andre Szmyt’s winning field goal.
Beckham went on to win Offensive Rookie of the Year in his first season, and if Concepcion can have a few more games like this one, he could be a real contender for that honor as well.
