Nick Chubb, Jarvis Landry Earn PFF Honors After Week 12

Pro Football Focus’ Team of the Week for Week 12 includes two members of the Cleveland Browns again.

But for a change of pace, both players are from the offensive side of the ball.

Jarvis Landry celebrated his 28th birthday a day late with his best game of the season.

PFF gave Landry an overall grade of 94.5, good enough for him to edge out Tyreek Hill for Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Highest-graded WRs in Week 12 prior to MNF:
1. Jarvis Landry – 94.5
2. Tyreek Hill – 92.9
3. Will Fuller V – 92.6
4. Terry McLaurin – 86.0
5. Deebo Samuel – 84.5 pic.twitter.com/ZbTNG7rlhE

Hill racked up over 200 yards receiving in the first quarter but became human from then on out.

Landry tallied 143 yards, catching 8 of his 11 targets from Baker Mayfield.

But he only ran 24 routes, giving him 6.81 yards-per-route, easily the best rate of the season among all wide receivers.

That was well over 4 yards better than his best performance through Week 11.

Landry’s receiving grade of 93.9 is also the best across the league this year and third-best over the last 5 seasons.

Mayfield hooked up with his star wideout for 6 “explosive passes”, defined by PFF as throws of over 15 air yards.

It was Landry’s first 100-yard game since mid-2019.

PFF Names Nick Chubb to Team of the Week

Nick Chubb was the Browns’ second-leading receiver against Jacksonville.

But his 3 catches for 32 yards were only a small reason why PFF named him to the Team of the Week.

Chubb also racked up 144 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

His 6.7 yards-per-carry were no anomaly as it left him with a 6.3 average on the season.

Nick Chubb since Week 10:

🔸 273 yards after contact (2nd)
🔸 18 missed tackles forced (1st) pic.twitter.com/uF21LPX3hQ

Since Week 10, Chubb leads all running backs with 18 missed tackles forced.

He is also second only to Derrick Henry with 414 yards and 274 yards-after-contact.

Chubb missed 4 games and shares the backfield with another PFF star, Kareem Hunt.

That explains why such a running force only has the 24th most RB touches on the season.

But it also makes his 6th-best 719 rushing yards all the more impressive.

Both Chubb and Hunt are on pace for 1,000-yard seasons through Week 12.

Other Notable PFF Grades: Mayfield, Vernon Grade Well

Baker Mayfield had only his second PFF passing grade over 75 this season.

Browns fans might lament what could have been had he not missed a pair of “easy” passes and a third touchdown.

But Mayfield and the Browns put up the fifth most-efficient passing offense across all games played through Monday night.

Mayfield’s passer rating came in at 81.1, earning him an overall 78.9 for the week.

KhaDarel Hodge (79.8) and Joel Bitonio (78.8) also topped the 75-point mark against Jacksonville.

Things were different on the defense this week.

Olivier Vernon did his best to fill the hole created by Myles Garrett‘s absence.

He easily earned the highest PFF score among his defensive teammates with an 82.6 grade.

Andrew Sendejo stepped up, too to cop a 71.1 score, by far his best of the 2020 season.

But 8 missed led to below-average scores for virtually every other defensive player.

They’ll need to step it up against Derrick Henry and the Titans in Week 13.
