The Cleveland Browns still have more than a week to go before they open the 2026 NFL season. So that gives their players plenty of time to do other things.
Some use the opportunity to get away from football for a few hours, while others can’t get enough of the game they love. Shedeur Sanders decided to travel to Atlanta to take in a game involving his alma mater, the University of Colorado.
Of course, not only did Sanders play quarterback for the Buffaloes, but his dad is still their head coach. Turns out, it was well worth the trip, as Colorado escaped with a 14-13 victory against Georgia Tech at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Thursday.
Afterward, Sanders was spotted celebrating the win with his former team, shaking hands with happy players.

Sanders likely was wishing he still had some eligibility left as he watched Colorado win its season opener. His replacement at QB, freshman Julian Lewis, led a touchdown drive in the final minute, capped by a 20-yard scoring pass. Georgia Tech managed to get into field goal range after that, but Colorado blocked the attempt to secure the win.
Critics may say that Sanders should be spending all his time focused on the Browns, but it might actually do him some good to get away from the team, at least for a little bit. The end of Cleveland’s quarterback competition, with head coach Todd Monken declaring Deshaun Watson the winner, has done nothing to quiet the conversation about the situation.
It has put Sanders in the middle of another controversy in his brief pro career. Analyst Chris Simms recently put forth the idea that Sanders may never really have had a chance to win the starting job because it was never really that close. However, another line of thinking suggests that Sanders will be the starter sooner rather than later, perhaps as early as the home opener in Week 3.
Maybe Colorado’s exciting victory will give Sanders the boost he needs heading into Week 1 as the backup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 13.
