And the plot thickens.
One day after Mary Kay Cabot reported on an alleged rift between Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield and Coach Kevin Stefanski, Mayfield himself weighed in on social media.
A few hours earlier, offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt dispelled the rumors in Cabot’s reporting from unnamed sources.
It is worth noting that Cabot is reputable and professional and has been reporting on the Browns for years.
What Mayfield Said
In response to Cabot’s tweet revealing her reporting, Mayfield wrote in his tweet:
“Clickbait. You and many other Cleveland local media continue to be drama stirring reporters with no sources or facts. Don’t put words in my mouth so you can put food on your table. I’m not your puppet.”

Clearly, Mayfield does not agree with Cabot’s reporting.
However, he did not stop by just saying that.
He accused her colleagues of being “drama stirring reporters”.
That is not going to endear him to the Browns beat reporters in 2022.
Maybe he does not care.
It is really hard to say at this point.
An Unlikely Ally
Mayfield’s tweet drew the attention of an unlikely ally, former Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden.
“Same stuff different year with her. She can’t help herself…”

Weeden’s Response Was Surprising
Weeden’s response drew attention.
He allegedly hasn’t commented on Browns football in a decade so Baker must be striking a nerve with him.
When Brandon Weeden talks Browns for the first time in almost a decade you know Baker has a point.

Will Others Jump In?
A fan wondered if other past players will jump into this discussion.

Conclusion
This thing is getting uglier by the second.
There have to be elements of truth to it; it was not totally manufactured by Mary Kay Cabot.
In the meantime, Baker Mayfield is apparently developing a list of alleged rifts.
First was Kevin Stefanski and now it is the Cleveland media.
