KC Concepcion was showing signs of emerging from Denzel Boston’s shadow before he was injured early in the Cleveland Browns’ Week 5 game against the New York Jets. Concepcion’s targets were increasing, and his production was beginning to match those looks.
The rookie wide receiver was able to quickly work his way back from a concussion, and he picked up right where he had left off. Now, he is coming off a breakout showing in the Browns’ 27-24 win against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
Concepcion earned a high grade for that Week 7 performance, getting an A-minus from Bleacher Report analyst Alex Ballentine.
“[Deshaun] Watson played pretty well, but it was KC Concepcion who had the most exciting performance. He turned a few quick screens into chunk plays and finished with 129 yards on eight catches. He chipped in another 23 yards rushing. He would have had an even bigger day if he hadn’t dropped an easy touchdown in the third quarter. Still, that would have just been extra padding to a career day,” Ballentine wrote.
Up until this point, Boston has been the Browns’ big-play receiver, leading the NFL in average yards per catch. But he has tailed off recently, perhaps slowed by a foot injury and the extra attention opposing defenses were starting to pay him.
So, Cleveland needed someone else to step up, and Concepcion did so in a big way against Tennessee. With the Browns trailing 14-0 in the first quarter, the first-round pick from the 2026 NFL Draft took over the game from there, with almost all of his production coming in a historic first half.
Concepcion had a 23-yard catch that set up Cleveland’s first touchdown, and 21-yard and 32-yard receptions that set up the tying score, both on short runs by Quinshon Judkins. Concepcion’s 15-yard grab then set up the go-ahead field goal as the Browns built a 17-14 halftime lead.
He was about to help them add to that lead early in the third quarter, but a downfield throw by Watson went off his hands. From there, either because the Titans shifted coverage to him or Watson started to look elsewhere, Concepcion did not have another target, but his 18-yard fourth-quarter run set up a tiebreaking touchdown by the quarterback.
Concepcion now leads the Browns with 30 catches and 45 targets this season, and he is second with 315 receiving yards, and based on what he showed in this game, he should continue to build on those numbers in a big way going forward.
