A.J. Green signed a record-setting deal with the Cleveland Browns after the 2020 NFL Draft.

It’s important to note the NFL now has two players named A.J. Green.

The Pro Bowl wide receiver is staying put on the Cincinnati Bengals under the franchise tag in 2020.

However, the Browns gave the undrafted Oklahoma State cornerback a $145,000 guarantee, with a $130,000 base salary guarantee and a $15,000 signing bonus.

Cleveland Browns wanted Oklahoma State corner A.J. Green badly. They signed him to a free agent deal that includes $145,000 guaranteed, with $130,000 base salary guarantee and $15,000 signing bonus, according to a league source

USA Today subsidiary Browns Wire reported it is the highest figure ever for an undrafted player right after the NFL Draft.

Perhaps at some point this upcoming season, Green could guard the receiver who shares the same name.

The 6’1”, 202-pound cornerback ran a 4.62-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

While Washington’s Myles Bryant also ran a 4.62, Mississippi State’s Cameron Dantzler (4.64) and Florida State’s Stanford Samuels (4.65) were the only cornerbacks who ran slower 40-yard dashes at the 2020 NFL Combine.

Green completed 13 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein projected Green to get selected in the fourth or fifth round of the draft.

Zierlein wrote of Green:

“Outside cornerback with size and length, but a lack of speed that could limit his scheme fits. He imposes his size on less shifty targets from press and when playing the ball underneath. He plays with adequate athleticism and route anticipation, but has issues sticking with quick route breaks and longer routes where he will fall behind against NFL speed. Green might be best-suited as a backup in a zone-heavy coverage scheme where he keeps the game in front of him and in smaller spaces.”

It’s the end of a difficult week for Green.

Green’s father Alvin died on Monday.

“2020 Couldn’t Get Any Worse! I love you Pops! May Your Soul Rest In Paradise! Our name will live On!” Green tweeted. “Always Smiling Willing To do anything for Me. I love You. I’m not Ok nor will I be OK soon but i will find the strength from within and continue the legacy of Alvin James Green.”

Oklahoma State did not have a player selected in this year’s NFL Draft.

The school’s streak of 11 consecutive years with at least one player selected in the draft came to an end.

Green was a three-year starter at Oklahoma State, compiling 118 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, six interceptions, 21 passes defended, and two forced fumbles.

Last season, Green was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the nation’s top defensive back each year.

Green had 39 solo tackles, five passes defended, and an interception in 2019, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors by the Associated Press.
