Andrew Berry and the Cleveland Browns sent a tender offer to wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge.
The move came on the first day of the NFL’s “legal tampering” period before the official start of free agency.
Hodge becomes a restricted free agent, with the Browns retaining the right to match any other offers he receives.
It is unclear what, if any, compensation the Browns could expect if Hodge signs with another team.

But that is probably a moot point as the fourth-year wideout is expected to stay with the Browns.
Former GM John Dorsey picked Hodge up off waivers after his rookie season in Los Angeles.
Hodge appeared in Super Bowl LIII with the Rams.
Dorsey wanted Hodge primarily for his special teams play, but he has proven a capable receiver when called upon.

Hodge has not been called upon too often, however, with just 17 career catches.
He led the Browns special teams with 13 tackles in 2019, but injuries limited his role last season.
Hamstring issues and a stint on the Covid-19 list limited Hodge to 9 game appearances.
Hodge is also an excellent blocker from the wide receiver position.
What Does It Mean To The Browns Receiver Room
Hodge provides a deep threat to back up Odell Beckham Jr if Kevin Stefanski chooses to use him in that role.
His blocking ability and special teams prowess earned him a considerable raise from his 2019 minimum salary.
But his 11 receptions (on 17 targets) certainly caught the eye of the coaching staff and fans.
His 14.8 yards-per-reception is sure to catch some eyes, as well.

With a healthy Beckham, as well as Jarvis Landry and Donovan Peoples-Jones, Hodge’s chances might be limited.
But he provides good insurance if People-Jones does not progress as expected.
Hodge started his college career as a quarterback at Alcorn State, so maybe Stefanski will let him try a Landry play during the season, too.
Ryan Switzer was re-signed by the Browns earlier this year and provides another slot option and returner.
Hodge’s return diminishes the odds of Rashard Higgins coming back.
But picking up another receiver in the draft would not be a surprise.
