There are 53 players on the Cleveland Browns’ roster, 16 more on the practice squad, and a couple more on injured reserve. But that leaves plenty of jersey numbers still available for anyone who joins the team.
On Monday, the Browns announced that they had signed defensive tackle Zion Logue to their practice squad. They let go of Tyreak Sapp in a corresponding roster move.
The new Browns defender also decided on his jersey number, taking No. 69, which used to belong to offensive lineman Tyre Phillips.

Phillips was let go before cutdown day after failing to earn a spot on the Browns’ revamped offensive line. Logue was brought in to potentially provide depth on Cleveland’s thin defensive line.
The 25-year-old has NFL experience, appearing in five games with the Buffalo Bills over the past two seasons, whereas Sapp, who wore No. 64, was a rookie undrafted free agent. Logue had four combined tackles and one-half sack for Buffalo, which led to him being let go as part of its final roster cuts.
Logue was a sixth-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2024 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia. There, he crossed paths with current Browns head coach Todd Monken, who was the college team’s offensive coordinator.
If Logue were to appear in a regular-season game for Cleveland wearing No. 69, he would be the first Cleveland player to do so since offensive tackle Leroy Watson during the 2023 season. It was last worn for multiple seasons by offensive tackle Roger Chanoine from 1999 through 2002, as well as offensive lineman Dan Fike from 1985 through 1992, and defensive tackle Jim Kanicki from 1963 through 1969.
The Browns did get some good news on the defensive line when Monken deemed veteran Maliek Collins “good to go” for the season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Collins came off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list just two weeks ago following his recovery from a quad injury suffered last season.
Logue could join him at some point, sporting his new jersey number.
