Landry: “We May Not Be As Good As We Thought We Were”

Frustration with the Browns offense has been mounting for much of the season.

Odell Beckham Jr’s start with the Browns has not gone smoothly as the coaching staff has struggled to find ways to involve the 3 time Pro Bowl receiver.

On Thursday, Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry admitted his frustration with the offense.

Landry said the Browns must find a way to get Odell Beckham Jr the ball and that the Browns may not be as good as they thought they were.

When asked to elaborate on his comment that the Browns may not be as good as they thought they were, he said, “Yeah, well, what I’m saying is we haven’t been playing to our potential. We haven’t been the disciplined football team that we would like to be. We haven’t been making enough plays, whether we’ve been put in position or not.’’

Landry was also asked why it has been so difficult to get Beckham involved in the offense:

I don’t call plays, right?’’ he said. “So I just say just from my perspective we just have to be intentional. We have to just deliberately get him the ball. Get all of our playmakers the ball. Guys that are going to make plays for us, just get them the ball.”

“I try to be as transparent about the things that I see on the field as often as possible,’’ he said. “Whether it’s film study throughout the week that I’ve seen or something during the game that I see and just try to talk to them about it. At the end of the day I can only give my suggestion — I’m not the one calling the plays. I can only give my suggestion, other guys can only give their suggestion about what they’re seeing, about what’s going on.’’

He said that he is sure offensive coordinator Todd Monken and Freddie Kitchens are doing everything they can to get the offense figured out and that he shares his thoughts regularly.

Landry was also unaware that his 500th reception milestone came from close friend Odell Beckham Jr:

So far, Kitchens and the offense have failed to live up to the magic they found late in 2018.

The Browns offense ranks 28th on 3rd down conversions and 23rd in total offense only above the Dolphins, Jets, and Redskins.
