On Sunday, the league continued its release of the 2021 NFL Top 100, as Myles Garrett was ranked No. 16.
Although the 2020 First Team All-Pro defensive end rose by 64 spots from last year, here is his response to the ranking:

In the video that Garrett included in his tweet, Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham describes him as a “freak of nature.”
Teammate Jarvis Landry says, “He does what he wants.”
Garrett is such an amazing player, but he still has the motivation to reach the top of the sport.
Prior to the NFL’s release of the top 10, we know five players who have been ranked above him:
- 15. Tyreek Hill, KC WR
- 14. Alvin Kamara, NO RB
- 13. Jalen Ramsey, LAR CB
- 12. Russell Wilson, SEA QB
- 11. Stefon Diggs, BUF WR
While Garrett feels like he was slighted this year, he seemingly will have the second-biggest rise of any player.
The player with the biggest rise is Josh Allen.
The NFL players ranked the Bills quarterback No. 87 last year, and he will be in the top 10 this time around.
Here is how Garrett has fared in the top 100 voting during his NFL career:
- 2018: not ranked
- 2019: No. 49
- 2020: No. 80
- 2021: No. 16
The two-time Pro Bowler has an impressive 23 sacks in his last 25 regular season games.
If not for his six-game suspension to end the 2019 season, Garrett would not have dipped in 2020.
However, a very strong 2021 performance should boost his 2022 NFL Top 100 spot.
Garrett is Ready to Prove He is a Top 10 Player
Garrett’s bulletin board will be full of offensive players this year.
In terms of the defense side though, he is chasing Aaron Donald, who has been dominating the NFL Top 100 for the last few years.
Donald, who was No. 1 in 2019, should be once again the best defensive player in the 2021 Top 100.
The 30-year-old Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle has made the Pro Bowl in every one of his NFL seasons, and he has been in the top 10 since 2018:
- 2015: No. 92, age 24
- 2016: No. 14, age 25
- 2017: No. 15, age 26
- 2018: No. 7, age 27
- 2019: No. 1, age 28
- 2020: No. 3, age 29
Garrett is 25 years old and will turn 26 near the end of December, so he has time to show that he will have a similar upward trajectory.
At age 25, Donald received his first top 20 ranking, and the same has happened for Garrett.
Week 1 Will be the Perfect Time for Garrett to Showcase Himself
The Kansas City Chiefs are the next hurdle for the Cleveland Browns, and for Garrett as well.
The 2020 Browns fell to the Chiefs, and three of those Kansas City players have higher NFL Top 100 rankings than Garrett:
- Patrick Mahomes (No. 4 in 2020): TBA for 2021
- Travis Kelce (No. 18 in 2020): TBA for 2021
- Tyreek Hill (No. 22 in 2020): No. 15 in 2021
Both Mahomes and Kelce will be in the top 10, which will be released on August 28.
Each of the three aforementioned players is above Garrett on the NFL Top 100 list.
Therefore, it will be exciting to see how the Browns defensive end looks on September 12 at Arrowhead Stadium.
It will be a rematch of the No. 1 overall selection in the 2017 draft against the No. 10 pick.
Garrett has one career sack against Mahomes.
The defensive leader on the Browns also had the team’s only sack in the 22-17 loss to the Chiefs in the divisional round last year.
However, it came against backup quarterback Chad Henne:

It was still Garrett’s first career playoff sack, and he will look for many more as a part of a tremendous career.
